How the conversion works
2 years = 24 human years
each year after 2 = +4 human years
Cats mature quickly. By their first birthday they are physically close to a teenager, and by two they resemble a young adult. After that aging slows to a steady pace, which is why the chart rises by 4 each year.
For cats younger than one year the calculator scales the 15 years evenly across the 12 months. That is only a rough guide, because kittens grow fastest in the first months.

Questions
Is one cat year really seven human years?
No. The "multiply by 7" rule is a simplification. Cats reach adulthood much faster than that in their first two years and then age more slowly, so the veterinary chart above is closer to reality.
How accurate is this?
It is an estimate. Genetics, diet, indoor or outdoor life and health all affect how a cat ages, so treat the result as a general comparison, not a medical measure.
