Cat weight chart by age
How much should a kitten weigh at 8 weeks, 16 weeks or a year? The chart below shows the median weight and the typical range for healthy male and female domestic shorthair kittens, from 8 weeks to 18 months, in pounds and kilograms. Enter your kitten's weight to see where it sits.
Typical range at this age is 1.4 to 3.0 lb.
A centile of 50 means half of healthy kittens of that age and sex weigh less. A kitten between the 10th and 90th is in the typical range. Growth checks matter more than a single weight, so look at the trend over weeks.

How this chart was made
The numbers come from the public dataset that goes with a 2022 study of healthy domestic shorthair kittens from Banfield veterinary clinics in the USA. We took only the healthy, ideal body condition kittens used for the study's growth standards, grouped the weigh-ins by age within a few weeks and sex, and calculated the median and centiles, with light smoothing between neighboring ages. The study itself published growth curves as charts. These tables are our own calculation from its data, so small differences from the printed curves are expected. The data end at 78 weeks.
Questions
How much should a kitten weigh at 8 weeks?
The median is about 2.0 lb (0.90 kg) for males and 2.0 lb (0.92 kg) for females.
How much should a kitten weigh at 16 weeks?

Is my kitten underweight or overweight?
Weight alone cannot say. A kitten below the 10th or above the 90th centile is outside the typical range and worth a look, and a sudden change in centile matters more. Your vet can score body condition.

No. The data are for domestic shorthair kittens. Large breeds such as the Maine Coon grow bigger and for longer.
How much should I feed my kitten?
What does the cat age in human years look like?
